Most English speaking countries practiced “Common Law” in their legal systems but France has a system and practiced “Civil Law” over the past decades. The French legitimate framework is spread out in originally initially drawn up in 1804, and known as the Code Civil, or Code Napoléon. Following the declaration rights in 1789, the constituent assemble more power over France. Different system of law were enacted over North and South of France with different types of law court. While this country is practicing civil law, their government must ensure to keep the public safety and well-being of society.

France has the second biggest economy in Europe based on Gross Domestic Product. One part of French culture that affects business in France is the nation’s thoughtfulness regarding rules and guidelines. The French have a low tolerance for uncertainty. The most important factor of French government is always the wealth held by individual citizen. French citizen has the stronger power in term of purchasing power. One of France characteristic that is a positive description but somehow a disadvantage is they are the most expensive country in European region. Small business owners in this country may have impressive profit but their cost of labor can be up to 32 euro per hour which is equivalent to 1,834.26 pesos per hour. The labor code of France forbids work on Sundays in most sectors and overtime must be paid at an extra 25% of their original work pay. Aside from that, French employee has recorded 2nd lowest English proficiency among all surveyed European countries; a business would have a problem in dealing with other customers from other countries or with those who can’t speak French when visiting France. The law in terms of getting business license is more complex among some near nations, they must have consultant before making a choice. Another cons in trading and business in this country is that they have higher taxation rate. Moreover, business owners from different country who are interested in positioning their brand or products must adapt the concept of French’s way of taking business too, they must love and patronize wines, clothing, other products and services that France is well known for. If you really wanted to have a business inside France, you need to undergo a lot of trainings and teaching especially when it comes to their language because apparently, their laws are much more concerned with the private affairs of citizens.

When I was a kid, I just love this country because of their high sense of fashion, the people are also very fan of wines and bread. Growing up, I always see myself exploring and living in France. I just wanted to feel their high quality of living but after I read a lot of articles and blog about their rules, regulations and how the government prioritize the well-being of every citizen; it made me more amazed, excited and curious as well. As a part of business curriculum, somehow their business world it so much interesting as expected, not just because of being one of the countries’ top economies but because they have unique ways of preserving their cultures and traditions. As a greatest admirer of this country ever since, I noticed that they are meticulous when it comes to business trading especially for those owners who are not a French citizen. As per mentioned from above informations, they are the 2nd largest economy in Europe. On my personal thoughts and understanding, this country must give opportunities to those businesses from other individuals who are not born and raised in France but are willing to take risk in business. It’s an advantage for them as well as the business owners. Employees must also practice English language for those customers who aren’t a citizen of France, it can help their business because there are a lot of tourist and maybe it would be a great help for them if they can communicate well to the customers. It is quite obvious that France has a huge potential in widening companies and even small business internationally because of their high economy. This is an opportunity for them, business owners must innovate their products and services to expand and to have a greater profit as expected. In terms of business getting papers and having business permits, it also takes twice as long and costs about five times more to obtain construction permits in France than in other countries, maybe they are using this as advantage but they should also consider those who are still young in business industry for them to have a good start. All in all, this country is superb and they’re doing their best to be still on the top.
